ONE GREAT HOUR OF SHARING

Our Mission

Conant Avenue United Methodist Church will perform the great commission; to make

disciples for Christ through community and world involvement that reaches children,

youth, and adults. This mission includes: spiritual formation, learning more about Jesus,

and how to accept and forgive. Our church seeks to inspire love, hope, and peace to all.

►CALL TO WORSHIP (Africana Worship Book)

One:     The world offers busy schedules and more stuff to do, but God offers rest.

Many: The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not be in want!

One:     The world offers faster cars and bigger houses, but God offers comfort.

Many: The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not be in want!

One:     The world offers war and terror, but God offers protection.

Many: The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not be in want!

One:     The world offers cheap love and cheap thrills, but God offers goodness and mercy.

Many: The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not be in want!

ALL:  Come now and let us dwell in the house of the Lord!

►LITANY OF AFFIRMATION (Africana Worship Book)

One:     O, give thinks to the Lord! Why! Because God’s steadfast love endures forever.

Let’s admit that this good God surely can save us from sin and shame.

Many: O, give thanks to the Lord!

One:     Let’s give God thanks as we overcome afflictions and transgressions. Let those

of us who are worked-over and worn-out come together quickly. Let’s come

from the North, South, East, and West, to give thanks to the Lord.

Many: O, give thanks to the Lord!

One:     People of faith, with failure and frailty, come troubled and tried ones, let’s get

together now. Let’s offer God soulful sacrifices of thanksgiving and spiritual

songs of joy and praise. People, created and called, let us all say:

Many: O, give thanks to the Lord! O, give thanks to the Lord! O, give thanks to the Lord!

PRAYER OF CONFESSION (Africana Worship Book)

O God of miracles and mighty deeds, we acknowledge your healing and comforting presence in

our lives. We confess that we have been blinded by materialism and driven by consumerism.

Open our eyes to a new way of being. Send our anointing and grant us fresh insight for spiritual

breakthroughs. Shine the light of your truth into our relationships and grant us victory over

every secret and shame. We thank you in advance for healings and renewals in our lives.

In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen
